Apple crisp is a classic fall dessert. Warm cinnamon apples are topped with crispy oatmeal topping. The best way to serve this is warm and with a scoop of ice cream.

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
Apple filling
5 – 5 1/2 cups apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. water
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter 10 inch baking dish. Set aside.
Peel, core and chop the apples.
Toss the apples with brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Set aside while you make the crumble topping.
To make the crumble topping: Stir brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and oats. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles small peas. You can use a knife, a fork or a pastry cutter to cut in the butter. Set aside.
To the apples add the water and give it a stir. Then add the flour and stir. Spoon everything into prepared baking dish.
Evenly sprinkle crumble topping.
Bake for 40 minutes or until apple crisp is bubbly and the crumble topping is golden brown.
