How to make an apple crisp

First, peel, core and chop the apples. Then toss with brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Set aside while you make the crumble topping.
To make the crumble topping: Stir brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and oats. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles small peas. You can use a knife, a fork or a pastry cutter to cut in the butter. Set aside until ready to use.
To the apples add the water and give it a stir. Then add the flour and stir. Spoon everything into prepared baking dish. Evenly sprinkle crumble topping.
Bake for 40 minutes or until apple crisp is bubbly and the topping is golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
What kind of apples should I use?
I like using a mixture of tart and sweet apples. I used granny smith and honey crisp apples. They are crunchy, crispy, sweet and tart. I would recommend using crunchy or crispy apples as they bake beautifully. However, you can use any kind of apples that you like.
