Why you’ll love this hot fudge pudding cake

  • Easiest dessert you’ll make
  • No mixer needed
  • Cake on top, fudgy chocolaty sauce on the bottom.

Ingredients needed for chocolate pudding cake

  • Butter: I use unsalted butter.
  • Flour: I use all purpose flour.
  • Baking powder
  • Sugar: You will be using granulated sugar and brown sugar.
  • Cocoa powder: You can use dark unsweetened cocoa powder or regular unsweetened cocoa powder. Dark unsweetened cocoa powder will give you more darker and rich chocolate flavor.
  • Milk: Any milk percentage will work.
  • Water: You will need boiling water.

Making the cake

This hot fudge cake has two parts to it. The cake part and the chocolate sauce. The cake part will rise to the top and the chocolate sauce will fall down; creating that fudgy, gooey chocolate sauce.

  1. Make the cake: Stir flour, baking powder, sugar, cocoa and a pinch of salt in a medium size bowl. Add the milk, melted butter and vanilla extract. Stir until combined. Spread the mixture onto greased baking dish.
  2. Make the topping: Whisk granulated sugar, brown sugar and cocoa. Sprinkle over the cake. Carefully pour hot water over the whole cake. Do not stir!
  3. Bake! You’ll bake the cake for about 30 minutes. Or until the cake is almost set.

Tips for success

  • Pour the hot water carefully over the cake. You don’t want to disturb the cake too much.
  • Do not over bake! The cake should still be slightly jiggly. If you overbake, the cake won’t be as gooey on the bottom.
